There is no real Uncle Frank – this is all my uncles in one.
Our Uncle Frank is coming today
We shout in celebration
He knows all of us by a special nickname
He knows where we all tickle
A nickel lands in every kid’s hand
Or a tootsie roll, or hard piece of candy.
He leads the family in prayer before meals
Be Present at our Table Lord
He makes sure we all get served
Family recipes – so many
He tells us stories of things he’s done
His army days and his wife, our Aunt Glory.
He advises us, full of wisdom and thought
On school, on God, on love.
His jokes come so quickly; witty and sharp
Plays his harmonica loudly
He lets go a hearty burp
Then sing, “With the sound of music”.
He talks of having many careers
A printer, engineer, or janitor
He smiles a smile, then his eyes glimmer
Making sure we all understand
“Family”, he says, “is the very top thing.
Remember that, all of you, forever.”
He leaves our house, his aura remains,
There’s no one better than our Uncle Frank.
